Christina Galisatus
Who

Release date: 01/08/2021

Slow & Steady Records announces the release of Los Angeles-based pianist and composer Christina Galisatus’ second single Who.” The recording reunites Galisatus with saxophonist Michael Blasky and guitarist Jeff Parker (both of whom are featured on her debut single, “Root”), as well as bassist Devon Gates and drummer Zev Shearn-Nance.

Galisatus’ writing shines on “Who,” which freely navigates the complexities of a feeling we’ve all known – that of unexpectedly seeing someone with whom  you’re no longer close. “A flood of memories suddenly comes,” shares Galisatus, “but it’s also juxtaposed against a haziness of it now being so distant. It’s like struggling to remember a vivid dream.” In “Who,” Galisatus eloquently captures the inherent nostalgia, the mourning of something lost, but also the discovery of something new, and true.

Given how cohesive the recording sounds, you wouldn’t know “Who” was recorded remotely during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. Galisatus credits drummer Zev Shearn-Nance, who engineered, co-produced, and mixed the song, and also co-wrote the lyrics that Galisatus sings. Indeed, Galisatus puts a lot of trust in her bandmates to shape her music: Blasky’s tenor sound fits the mood and melody perfectly; Gates (recording from Atlanta) effortlessly melds with Shearn-Nance’s groove, and Parker’s signature sound and textures are what Galsatus calls “the glue of the song.”
