Joseph's Bones
Joseph’s Bones
While Joseph’s Bones credits influences from dub masters King Tubby and Lee "Scratch" Perry, “Joseph” is a reference to Bob Marley, following a rastafarian tradition of giving a biblical name to someone of importance to your own life, who’s a central figure for bandleader and drummer Jason Levis. What Levis and his collaborators call “avant-dub” is a reimagining of dub’s surface texture with new instruments (notably, a trombone choir) without losing the physical impact of dub’s dance roots. Featuring a unique instrumentation of three trombones, tuba, three guitars, bass and drums, Joseph's Bones effortlessly flows between visceral groove and abstract sound.
