A native of Los Gatos, CA but now east coast resident of Brooklyn, pianist Richard Sears possesses an original emerging voice as an improviser and composer. His compositions has been recognized by grants from the Aaron Copland Fund and the Los Angeles Jazz Society. Richard maintains a bi-coastal schedule and has performed with the Billy Hart Quartet (ft. Mark Turner and Ben Street), the Muhal Richard Abrams Orchestra, Joshua Redman, Chick Corea, Ralph Alessi, Eric Revis, and others.  His 2017 release, “Altadena”, features the legendary drummer, Albert “Tootie” Heath and earned 4 stars in Downbeat Magazine, naming it one of the Best Albums of the Year. His forthcoming release Iron Year, features music composed since his move from Los Angeles to Brooklyn in 2015. Richard continues to perform and teach internationally, and curates the “Open Ground” performance series in Brooklyn to promote the work of like-minded artists connected within the greater Prospect Park area.
