Strike Iron is an Oakland-based, 13-piece afrobeat band who's high-energy grooves and intricate stage show are rich with hypnotic percussion, heavy horns, African dance, wild costumes and elaborate group choreography. Born out of the ashes of the international afrobeat act Albino, Strike Iron brings socially-charged dance music into the 21st century. Fronted by multi-instrumentalist, composer and lead vocalist Michael Bello (Phil Lesh and Friends, Ernest Ranglin), and featuring a tight-knit crew of Bay Area artists you can also hear performing with the San Francisco Mime Troupe, Lebo (ALO), Midnight North, Crystal Garden (Boyd Tinsley), The Johnny Otis Band, The Latin Rhythm Boys, The Humidors, Lee Presson and the Nails, and Classical Revolution. With a sound uniquely born of, and representative of the San Francisco Bay Area, Strike Iron’s mission is to create music with a strong environmental-social-political message that also moves the body and spirit.
